Hina Khan is a Pakistani-Irish visual artist. She completed an MFA with a major in Miniature Painting at Fatima Jinnah Women University in Pakistan, and now works between that inherited discipline — gouache on wasli, squirrel-hair brushes, hours of accumulated line — and large-scale installation, video and painted architecture.
The two scales speak to each other. A surface that would traditionally hold a court scene instead holds a boat of people crossing water. Marks that would render a garden render a coastline dissolving. Her work returns repeatedly to migration and displacement, to gender and restriction, to environmental collapse, and to the quiet violence of the line drawn on a map.
Her work is held in the permanent collection of the Arts Council of Ireland.

Commission — Meta Open Arts
A site-specific mural commission for Meta, developed through the Meta Open Arts programme. The vocabulary of the miniature — coiled linework, layered wash, water rendered as thousands of small repeated curls — is carried up onto architecture, wrapping corners, doorways and columns at the scale of a room.
Bodies of Work
Vast tea-stained landscapes on paper where coastline, cloud and sediment become the same substance. Ink drawn in obsessive repeated curls; the ground itself appears to be dissolving and re-forming.
Graphite drawings at wall scale — tangled root systems interrupted by pale, deliberate voids. What is documented and what is erased, held in the same frame.
Miniature painting turned toward migration: boats, crossings and crowds rendered in gouache on wasli, in a tradition built to celebrate courts, now recording the people who move between them.
Circular panels in deep indigo and ember red, worked in heavy paint and traced over with fine silver linework — night water, and the shapes moving under it.
Biography
Hina Khan is a Pakistani-Irish visual artist based in Kinsale, County Cork. She holds an MFA with majors in Miniature Painting from Fatima Jinnah Women University, Pakistan.
She now works with a mixture of traditional miniature technique and large-scale installation and video, addressing social and humanitarian subjects: migration, gender discrimination, restriction, displacement and the trauma that follows people across borders.
She has held residencies at Fire Station Artists' Studios, Create Ireland, West Cork Arts Centre, Meta Open Arts and Cow House Studios, and has been supported by awards from the Arts Council of Ireland and funding from Create Ireland. Her work is held in the permanent collection of the Arts Council of Ireland.
